A Railroad Town Growing a Downtown
Epoxy flooring in Oakland Park covers everything from bungalow garages to brewery floors. The city began as the Town of Floranada, a mix of Florida and Canada, in 1925. It went bankrupt after the 1926 hurricane and reincorporated as Oakland Park in 1929. Today the Florida East Coast Railway cuts through the city alongside Dixie Highway, and that corridor shapes much of the commercial work we see.
Floors for makers and brewers
Funky Buddha Brewery is based in Oakland Park, and the city's rail corridor hosts a mix of small shops and service businesses. Production floors face very different stress from a home garage:
- Thermal shock from hot washdowns over cold concrete.
- Acids and sugars from brewing and food prep that etch bare concrete.
- Forklift and pallet jack wheels that wear paths into weak coatings.
- Constant water that needs slope to drains and a slip-resistant finish.
For rooms like that we look at urethane cement or thick epoxy systems rather than a decorative garage coating.
Downtown redevelopment
The city has adopted zoning to turn its downtown into a walkable, mixed-use district, with a possible commuter rail station on the FEC line. Rising prices in neighboring Wilton Manors have driven more interest in Oakland Park's downtown. New storefronts and converted spaces often want a polished, seamless look. Metallic or solid-color epoxy over a ground slab can give that finish without the cost of terrazzo.
A large, mixed housing stock
The 2020 census counted 20,596 housing units and 19,091 households here. Garages range from 1950s and 1960s single-family homes to newer townhomes. On older slabs, plan on extra grinding and crack repair; newer ones get checked for curing compounds. In both, we test for moisture, since the city sits at only about 7 feet of elevation.

Rainy-season scheduling
Broward's heaviest rain falls from June through September. For garage and patio jobs we plan around afternoon storms and watch the dew point, so each coat goes onto a dry, warm-enough slab.

Oakland Park Questions
What floor do you suggest for a brewery or food production room?
Usually a urethane cement or a thick epoxy system with a slip-resistant finish and coved walls. These handle hot water, sugars and cleaning chemicals much better than a garage-grade coating.
Can you make a new storefront floor look polished?
Yes. A metallic or solid-color epoxy over a ground and repaired slab gives a seamless, glossy look. We add a topcoat suited to foot traffic and chairs.
My 1950s garage has big cracks. Can you still coat it?
Usually. We grind, route and fill cracks, and check whether any are still moving. Moving cracks get a flexible treatment so they do not reflect through.
Does summer rain delay garage work?
Sometimes by a few hours. Humidity and dew point matter more than the rain itself, and we check both before each coat.
